“Always hear the Yes in the No!”
In
Compassionate Communication we always realize that when someone says No
to us they are really trying to meet some other important needs. In
their No to our request, they are saying Yes to another important need
they have. If we can keep this awareness, it becomes easier to hear the
No from the other person and it allows us to remain connected to them
and show understanding and empathy.
“Never do anything that isn’t play”
“Never do anything that isn’t play”
This is one of the key principles in
Compassionate Communication. It is an encouragement to always do things that
are in alignment with our own needs and values. When we are in alignment with
our needs and values, we get great pleasure and meaning from things we
do. That doesn’t mean that life is always easy or that we don’t work hard; it
means that there is still a greater joy and purpose that makes the hardship
worthwhile and meaningful. When we are not in alignment with our needs and
values, it is easy to lose our self-connection, inspiration and joy. Very
little things in life can exhaust us. Giraffes like to live lives filled with
“play”.
